A new urban mobility concept in Italy: e-Cargo Bike sharing launches with MDF

A new urban mobility concept in Italy

“M.D.F. – Meglio del Furgone” is the first pilot project in Italy to introduce an e-Cargo bike sharing service specifically designed for artisans and professionals in the manufacturing sector. Promoted by APA Confartigianato Imprese Milano Monza e Brianza, the initiative offers a sustainable and practical alternative to traditional vans for urban deliveries—making it easier to move around city centers and restricted traffic zones (ZTL) at no extra cost, while reducing the environmental impact of last-mile logistics.

The service allows artisans to park their vans in designated areas and continue their deliveries using e-Cargo bikes. Through a dedicated digital platform, users can book the bikes, manage payments, and access services such as insurance, technical support, and maintenance.

For the pilot phase, the e-Cargo bike fleet will be provided by Bosch eBike Systems. The bikes themselves will come from Biga Bike, a Milan-based shop specializing in cargo bikes for both professional and family use, also responsible for the fleet’s maintenance. Repower will provide the charging infrastructure, while Playmoove will manage the digital platform, offering real-time booking and payment systems. So.De Social Delivery, a social enterprise active in sustainable logistics, will offer an integrated B2B bike delivery service to complement the project.

The initiative will officially launch during Milano Design Week.
