Even smaller municipalities are equipping themselves with e-bike charging stations to encourage sustainable mobility
There are several initiatives in Italy to encourage more sustainable mobility, even in smaller municipalities. These include, for example, that of the municipality of Cossano Belbo (about 900 inhabitants), in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont, where new charging stations for electric bicycles were recently inaugurated.
The devices will allow bikers to recharge their e-bikes, as well as to repair and wash them. The objective? Of course, promoting sustainable mobility among citizens and stimulating cycle tourism.
Three of the four newly inaugurated columns have been installed throughout the country, in places of particular tourist and cultural interest. The fourth, dedicated to washing bicycles, is located in the central square of the Piedmontese municipality.
Another example comes from Forte dei Marmi, in the province of Lucca, Tuscany, where three inflating columns for two-wheelers were installed in recent days.
The initiative, which aims to put cycling at the centre of urban development, comes after the activation of the new ‘Bike to Work’ and ‘Bike to School’ services and the related economic incentives.
“It is important to enrich the urban context with an increasing number of services that support the daily choice of the bicycle as a means of transport in the city. And thanks also to the commitment and numerous initiatives on the subject of soft mobility, Forte dei Marmi is building a network of services that increasingly encourages travelling on foot or on two wheels,” said vice-mayor Andrea Mazzoni.
The three bicycle pillars will be available free of charge to the whole community. Again, the devices are placed at strategic points in the city.
