GSE (Gestore dei Servizi Energetici) and Autostrade dello Stato (AdS), the publicly owned company operating in the motorway sector, have signed a collaboration agreement aimed at developing a new model of environmentally sustainable highway, aligned with the European Union’s goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
The agreement falls within the framework of the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC) and the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), and seeks to accelerate the ecological transition in the transport sector through targeted initiatives focused on decarbonization and renewable energy development.
Key actions outlined in the agreement include: identifying strategic areas for the installation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, promoting alternative energy carriers such as biofuels and green hydrogen, enhancing the energy efficiency of the motorway network, and developing renewable energy sources.
