Paola Cossu’s talk at AIPARK’s PDays 2024 in Florence: best-in-class urban logistics

How can modern cities reconcile economic growth, operational efficiency, and environmental sustainability? This was the main theme of Paola Cossu’s talk at PDays 2024, the premier event for the parking industry, held on May 30–31 in Florence.

During the opening session, Paola Cossu, CEO of FIT Consulting Srl, former Chair of Urban Logistics, and current Board Member of the European Association on Logistics (ALICE), highlighted key innovations and strategies for innovative urban space management.

Her presentation underscored the vital role of urban logistics in enabling digital transformation and fostering a more dynamic, efficient, and collaborative approach.

A notable example presented was the transformation of traditional parking areas into multifunctional logistics hubs. This concept leverages existing infrastructure, repurposing parking spaces into fully equipped areas that facilitate last-mile delivery operations. Additionally, new technologies, such as Data Spaces, promote collaboration and real-time data exchange among stakeholders, enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of urban freight transport.

Public administrations play a critical role in this transformation. Through Sustainable Urban Logistics Plans (PULS), they must implement effective tools and measures that address the real needs of both the logistics sector and citizens. By fostering energy transition and reducing conflicts over public and private space use, these initiatives can promote active mobility and improve service delivery.
