Ports in connection, speech by FIT president Massimo Marciani at ASSITERMINAL conference

Lo scorso 5 dicembre si è tenuto a Roma, presso Confitarma, il convegno organizzato da ASSITERMINAL – Italian Association of Port&Terminal Operators dal titolo “Ports in connection – ESG, IA, CSRD: Beyond acronyms, solutions and opportunities”.

The conference, moderated by Roberta Bussato, Director of Maritime Economics, was introduced by FIT President Massimo Marciani, who clearly outlined the main objectives and challenges facing the transportation and logistics sector today.

In his speech, Marciani emphasized that the transition to sustainable logistics models in compliance with ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) principles is now an urgent necessity. Indeed, the integration of innovative and digital technologies is essential not only to optimize processes, but also represents a strategic opportunity to reduce environmental impact and improve operational efficiency. “ESG calls for the creation of ecosystems,” Marciani explained, “this means collaborating by interworking vertically and horizontally. The time has come to share services, following the model of banks.” In addition, “It is crucial to monitor and report performance and actions in ESG terms through KPIs,” stressed the FIT Consulting president.

Another central theme of Marciani’s speech was on transparency. “In the ideal world we are trying to build, an irregular company does damage to the whole industry, because it inserts a mode of competition that is not fair. So it is crucial to train management, to make them understand the importance of ESG, and to be ready to change models and ways of working. ESG will give us the opportunity to excel in the industry,” Marciani concluded.
