It is called ‘Mobility as a Service for Italy‘ and is the project of the National Plan for Recovery and Resilience (PNRR) that aims to achieve complete digitisation and intermodality of local public transport on a national scale. MaaS allows you to organise, book and pay for your trip conveniently online, via an app, and also offers the possibility of using different means of transport – from train, bus, car and bike sharing services to taxis and car parks – and moving from one region to another.
Among the first regions chosen by the Ministry of Infrastructures and Transport for the experimentation of MaaS is Emilia-Romagna, which will have 2.3 million euro at its disposal – in addition to the 11.5 million euro of a project supported by the Por Fesr 2021-2027 Programme – thanks to which the Region will be able to adapt the necessary technological equipment of the local public transport companies and Fer. *** Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version) *** The project will therefore enable the region to respond to the need to develop a standard platform from a technological point of view, starting from a base constituted by the important regional results already achieved in recent years with the Roger platform, which involves 350 thousand users in the region and whose experience will be extended and strengthened.
In addition, the project will give a strong boost to the digitisation of local public transport, thus making it an increasingly competitive alternative to private transport, with undoubted advantages for the environment, the quality of life in cities and citizens, who will be able to travel more easily and save money.
The planned measures will thus revolutionise the way of getting around, with the possibility in the future to take advantage not only of the dematerialisation and unification of travel tickets, but also of rewards, bonuses and season tickets, multilingual and visually impaired apps, and to combine the purchase of a transport ticket with that for cultural events and tourist packages.
In order to test the MaaS system, which to date is still under construction, the active participation of 5,000 citizens of the Emilia-Romagna region, including 500 residents in inland areas and 100 people with disabilities. The trial will last six months.
