The European DISCO project featured in DomusAir with an exclusive interview with the FIT coordination team
The European project DISCO, coordinated by FIT Consulting, takes center stage in the latest issue of DomusAir (No. 13), published by Editoriale Domus S.p.A.
The article, titled “A DISCO for Europe”, delves into the project’s innovative potential through an exclusive interview with Paola Cossu, CEO of FIT, and Paola Astegiano, Senior Project and Technical Manager at FIT, who shared DISCO’s strategic vision and ambitious objectives for revolutionizing urban logistics.
DISCO: a visionary approach to urban logistics
The DISCO project aims to transform urban logistics through a data-driven, networked platform that fosters collaborative and eco-friendly goods movement. Inspired by the evolution of the music industry – from physical formats to digital distribution – DISCO envisions fully digitalized urban logistics via Sustainable Urban Logistics Plans (SULPs) and a dedicated data space for the secure real-time exchange of information among stakeholders.
Field testing in eight European cities
The DISCO innovations will be developed into 23 flagship solutions on optimal and flexible use of urban space for logistics in 8 European Living Labs. They span North to South and East to West along TEN-T corridors, supporting the revised guidelines for the TEN-T, which states that EU cities on the network should adopt a SUMP harmonised with SULP, and collect relevant data.
The Starring Living Labs pilot initiatives involve 4 cities, including:
- Shared micro-hubs in Helsinki
- Optimization of underutilized spaces in Thessaloniki
- Access control systems in Ghent
- Digital twin simulations in Copenhagen
